COFFIN AND VAN DIJK WIN US OPEN OF SURFING PRO JUNIOR

A new swell and sunny, summer conditions arrived just in time to crown new Men's and Women's Junior Champions on Day 8 of the US Open of Surfing. Congrats to both Conner Coffin (USA) and Nikki Van Dijk (AUS), who walk away from Huntington Beach with a nice chunk of cash and ultimate bragging rights.

The road to the finals for Coffin was an impressive one. He stole the show in the semifinals with his patented powerful rail surfing surfing, and continued his roll through to the Finals. Rounding out the Junior Men's finalists were Kanoa Igarashi (USA) in second, Cooper Chapman (AUS) in third and Filipe Toledo (BRA) in fourth. Toledo however is still alive in the Men's PRIME event — more info on that below.

In the Junior Women's division it was Australian Nikki Van Dijk who took home the win with some serious backside power surfing, going vertical with a massive snap to record the highest score of the final — an 8.07. The other finalists were Leila Hurst (HAW) in second, Quincy Davis (USA) in third and Kaleigh Gilchrist (USA) in fourth.

Before the Juniors got in the water this afternoon, the Men's Round of 16 took place to determine the ASP PRIME Quarterfinals. Filipe Toledo (BRA) took down Timmy Reyes (USA). Miguel Pupo kept his streak alive as he beat Kai Otton (AUS). Both Kelly Slater (USA) and Dane Reynolds (USA) won their heats and will surf against each other in what looks to be the heat of the event during tomorrow morning's Quarterfinals. Adriano De Souza (BRA) and John John Florence (HAW) also made it through their heats. And rounding things out in the final heat of the round was local favorite, Brett Simpson (USA), who lost to World Tour standout, Julian Wilson (AUS) in a close buzzer-beater finish.

Also taking place today was the Pacifico Noseriding Invitational Semifinals. Through to tomorrow's Finals are Joel Tudor, Alex Knost, Christian Wach and Justin Quintal.

Tomorrow is shaping up to be a great day of surfing as the best surfers in the world battle it out at the HB Pier. The Men's Quarterfinals will kick things off at 8:00am and both the Men's and Women's US Open of Surfing Champion will be crowned by day's end. You are not going to want to miss it!
