US OPEN NIKE 6.0 JR PRO
BOYS
The Pro Junior series has taken on a life of its own in recent years. Often showcasing the most exciting progressive surfing, many of the world’s best rising stars use the Pro Junior series to find themselves. No one did that better than 2008 Pro Junior champion Tanner Gudauskas, who outsoared red-hot Julian Wilson for the grand prize.
This year’s Junior at the Hurley US Open will be backed by Nike 6.0. Already a huge supporter of Pro Junior surfing with its Grade 4 Pier Pressure event in June, 6.0 intends to create as many opportunities as possible for the next generation to make their mark. This is a key qualifier for the world championship in Oz in January, so you can count on the best 20-and-under surfers in the world being here.
GIRLS
Many of the world’s best female surfers taking part in this Grade 4 event are barely getting their driver’s licenses. Carissa Moore, Malia Manuel, Coco Ho, Sally Fitzgibbons…the list goes on. Which is why this year’s Girls Nike 6.0 Pro Junior will pack in all the drama and performance level of a major world tour event.
The girls version of the ASP Pro Junior series is just like the boys. Every region has its own tour, which ultimately allows you to qualify for the Billabong Pro Junior — the world championships held in January at Narrabeen, NSW, Australia. But aside from all the loftier goals, this Nike 6.0 Pro Junior event will be all about these girls showing the masses just how talented they are. As last year’s US Open Champion, 15-year-old Malia Manuel, says, “It’s almost like I had an out-of-body experience when I won last year — it’s such a rush surfing in front of all those people!”
